Construction Project Superintendent

The Construction Superintendent is the frontline of our team. The Construction Superintendent leads, directs, and coordinates the day-to-day safety and management of the projects in the field. We are looking for a seasoned construction superintendent that is a self-starter, can quickly build a rapport with the complete project team, and has local knowledge and contacts.

Keeley Construction, Inc., a dynamic commercial construction company based in Near Northwest Suburbs of Chicago, is seeking a Construction Superintendent.  The Construction Superintendent is the frontline of our team.  The Construction Superintendent leads, directs, and coordinates the day-to-day safety and management of the projects in the field. We are looking for a seasoned construction superintendent that is a self-starter, can quickly build a rapport with the complete project team, and has local knowledge and contacts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Enforce all safety and quality standards
  • Supervise the daily jobsite activities, work very closely with Project Manager to ensure success and that the work is performed in a safe and organized manner, is in compliance with the drawings and specifications, and is executed by the most efficient means.
  • Manage and coordinate the activities of subcontractors and material vendors via planning and scheduling.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules and report problems or deficiencies to the Project Manager/Construction Manager.
  • Manage the quality assurance/quality control program for the project.
  • Document all on-site activities with reports and photos.
  • Review, process and coordinate construction documents including: Shop Drawings, Submittals, and RFI’s with Owner, Architect, Engineers, and Subcontractors
  • Review change order requests with project team
  • Collaborate with architects, owner representatives and local municipalities
  • Some travel may be required

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of commercial & industrial construction industry experience and an overall knowledge of all phases of the construction and design processes.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and driven to see results.
  • Proven record of leadership skills.
  • Excels in working in a fast- paced environment and can manage others.
  • Excellent project management and detail oriented organizational skills.
  • Capable of managing customer expectations while orchestrating sub-contractors and vendors.
  • Ability to work independently and treat safety as a primary focus.
  • Ability to understand contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project schedule.
  • Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, Scheduling software, and Timberline or similar applications.
  • Construction Management Degree is helpful.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Performance of the required duties will require the physical ability to occasionally climb permanent and temporary stairs, climb ladders, negotiate work areas under construction, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Occasionally requires passenger use of construction personnel hoists. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Performing this job regularly requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk, hear and stand. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are a representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will primarily work at a construction work site. In the construction site setting, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise in this work environment is usually moderate to loud.
